Sadie Ray Cooper grew up in the artist enclaves of Venice, California and Taos, New Mexico. She first started making jewelry with her older sister Sydney and grandmother Gloria during summer vacations. Gloria traveled the country in her airstream collecting gems and minerals, was a silversmith, and lapidarist. Her mother was an early pioneer of vintage re-sale, and packed young Sadie in her stroller for pre-dawn flea market treasure hunting, for her store, “Jack Rabbit”, first in Venice and later Taos. Sadie began selling her childhood jewelry pieces in her mothers store. Her father, artist Ron Cooper, owned the old Ranchos de Taos Trading Post, which he turned into several artist live work spaces. Sadie spent her days, talking with and making art along side some very special and talented people. Growing up she was exposed to all the mediums her dad worked in as well, whether it be lost wax casting in a foundry, or painting with resin, Sadie was making her own work and developing her own creative language from a young age. Collecting, making, and an eye for the sublime, has always been an integral part of Sadie’s life. She is pleased to be able to share her treasures, with you!
